Purcell Cup Promotion & Media Coverage 14/01/2005

In order to assist with the marketing and promotion of the Purcell Cup Finals at Queens, the Camogie Club commissioned an illustrator to create a mascot (above left) for the Purcell Cup at Queen's. The mascot, as yet un-named, but bearing a striking resemblance to a not-so-former player, will be to the fore in Queen’s promotional material in the lead up to the Purcell Finals weekend on 5th - 6th February

The Camogie Club has also put in place substantial media coverage ahead of the finals. This includes confirmed Television coverage, Radio, the Printed Media and the World Wide Web.

The Posters
As part of the promotion of the Purcell Cup weekend, hundreds of posters advertising Queen's staging of the competition are being distributed to schools and camogie clubs throughout the north early this week. The player featured on the poster is former Queen's Camogie Club Captain Lisa Quinn.

The Open Invitation
Along with the posters, the Queen's Camogie Club has also sent out an open invitation to schools, colleges and Camogie Clubs across Ulster to come along and watch the games over the weekend. There will be no admission charge during the event.

Purcell Cup Weekend Media Launch 14/01/2005

The Purcell Cup Weekend media launch has been provisionally set for Tuesday 25th January in the Canada Room at Queen's - this will be confirmed over the next day or two

Belfast City Council Reception 14/01/2005

It has been confirmed that the Queen's Camogie Club has officially been invited, along with Camogie dignitaries and team Captains and Officials, to a reception to be hosted by Belfast City Council on Friday evening, 4th February. It is a great honour for the club to receive this invitation and all participating teams will be expected to have a representative at the reception.

Team News 14/01/2005

Amazingly no team information has been received to date from any college, despite a number of requests for same. With time running out before the Purcell Cup programme goes to print there is a possibility that some teams may not even feature in the programme!

Purcell Cup Finals 2005 on DVD 14/01/2005
As part of the Purcell Cup weekend, Queen's Camogie Club will have a Camera and reporter covering both finals on the Sunday - including post match interviews. If your college reaches either of the finals and you wish to purchase a DVD of your particular game, we can arrange it...no bother!

Liaison Officers 14/01/2005

For the nature of the job that's in it, it's not surprising that some 30 applications were received for the 8 positions of team liaison officer for the weekend. Following a strict interviewing process and much debate, the candidates have been whittled down to lucky 8!
Qualifying teams will have to wait until they arrive in Belfast to see which of the Brad Pitt look-a-likes they'll have at their disposal!

Purcell Cup Matches 14/01/2005
FTo date, Queens as hosts, Athlone IT, Limerick IT and Tralee and all qualified for the Purcell weekend.
BIG tournament favourites, Garda, have secured their place, overcoming DCU 0-17 to 1-3 last Wednesday (12th).
St. Mary's Belfast and NUIG Maynooth battle it out this Wednesday (19th). GMIT will hope to overturn their league defeat when they take on IT Sligo in Galway on 20th

Queen's still await the winners of Cork College vs. St. Pat's vs. Trinity. The first two colleges play on Monday (17th) with the winners playing Trinity on Thurs 18th and then, the winners of that face hosts Queens by 26th

Media launch on 27th in Queens

The Queen’s University Camogie Club intend to make this a memorable Purcell Cup weekend for everyone and we hope that you will enjoy your stay in Belfast, play a bit of Camogie but above all, have a bit of craic!

Let the Mother of all Purcell’s begin!
